At ABN AMRO Insurance KPI’s were consolidated and reported using MS-Excel. This caused a lot of unnecessary efforts and costs. To reduce this, ABN AMRO looked for a more professional software application. In March 2004, a pilot was started using Bizzscore, because it offered all the functionality that was needed and because of its scalability, it required small investments and was extremely easy to implement. In its current form, it consists of top-level scorecards with 23 KPI’s per dashboard. One of the main benefits is the easy to use web based KPI analysis.
The Organization ABN AMRO Insurance is an ambitious insurer that delivers top products to clients of ABN AMRO Bank. The company is a full subsidiary of Delta Lloyd Nuts Ohra and the driving force behind all insurances which have been sold via the retail banking of ABN AMRO.
The Challenge For some time, ABN AMRO Insurance had been working using performance management systems. “Because of this, the key performance indicators were already selected” says Coen Hordijk, BI-specialist of the Data warehouse team. He continues: “The KPI’s were consolidated and reported using MS-Excel. This caused for a lot of unnecessary efforts and costs. Therefore, we were looking for a more professional software application”.
Three solutions were eligible for ABN AMRO Insurance: Bizzscore, Business Objects and Cognos. Solutions of Business Objects and Cognos were already being used by ABN AMRO Insurance, Bizzscore came into the picture because of positive experiences in similar projects of Atos Consulting, the firm that was assisting in the selection process at ABN AMRO Insurance.
After a presentation to the Finance MT, the short list was confined to Cognos and Bizzscore. Subsequently, the choice was made to start a pilot with Bizzscore, because it offered similar functionality, demanded for a smaller investment and was much easier to implement.
The Pilot In March 2004, a pilot was started using Bizzscore. In the pilot 8 KPI’s and a number of different dashboards were developed, which succeeded. Consequently, additional reporting facilities were built. The pilot ended with the successful presentation of the reports; on-time and within budget.
The Implementation Initially, ABN AMRO Insurance was a joint venture of Delta Lloyd and ABN AMRO. This changed and the organization became sole property of Delta Lloyd. Due to organizational shifts, a number of KPI’s traded places in the dashboard structure. In its current form Bizzscore reports over 23 KPI’s in the top-level dashboard. Two-thirds of the KPI’s are linked to data sources, mainly Cognos cubes, and one third of the KPI’s is entered manually. The action and improvement plans are also part of the Bizzscore functionality that is being used. In the second trimester of 2005 the inhouse training of Bizzscore started.
The Business benefits “The dashboards also could have been realized with different tools, but not as easy as it was using the Bizzscore solution”, says Coen Hordijk. “Functionality for analyses is a very strong point: it is easy to explore KPI’s in Bizzscore using detail analyses and drill downs” Hordijk continues. He indicates that Bizzscore has successfully realized the original goals: ”The web version delivers an eminent saving with respect to data loading, analysis, planning and reporting”.
